Description of Venue

"I've . . . seen things, you people wouldn't believe. . . ." "Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? . . . That's what it is to be a slave. . . ." -Quotes from Bladerunner

Changeling is a venue of dualities. Escaped slaves, looking for every way to preserve the precious freedom that they seem to have gained. Preserved and kept hidden only by the very same power which stole their lives from them in the first place, and struggling against the overwhelming force of an enemy they can't usually see, and when they can, wishing they hadn't. Who wouldn't go mad? The existence of the Lost is both glorious in its wonder, and at the same time as harrowing as any nightmare in the darkness of that wonder. All changelings dread both the memory and the possible relapse of their captivity, and hate the keepers who took them, but the power, wonder and strange beauty of that place is undeniable. As are the powers marked upon them, and many of the freedoms they gain from such. Some embrace this power, some hide from it, some seek to destroy it. Like any power, it can do nothing unless used. But of course used properly is always a large part of this equation.

In hiding from enemies, and often from their own abilities, the Lost of Fairbanks have allowed winter and wildness to grow in the area which they might otherwise lay claim to. The thorns have grown steadily wilder and more unpredictable here. Now the Lost of Fairbanks must face new terrors lurking in the shadows. Will the Lost who are here stand to wrest control of "their" domain, or will another forces prevail here?

Storytelling Rules & Mechanics

Personal NPCs (Retainers, hedge beasts, etc.)

* Final authority for the creation, and use of these NPCs rests with the VST.
* Players SHOULD submit their suggestions for the creation design of these NPCs, in forms ranging from simple concepts of type, to fully designed NPC character sheets, however the VST reserves the right to make changes to any of these before allowing them to enter play.

Glamour

* All characters will enter play with half their maximum glamour (rounded up) Plus the value of their highest harvest merit.
* Players who arrive before game on may request a brief scene to harvest more before entering play.
* The presiding Storyteller may institute a bonus or penalty to the starting pool and/or other harvesting attempts due to situational or environmental factors.
* Glamour expenditure will be recorded on the character sheet or a legible 3x5 card, or via counters issued by ST staff at the start of game. Either of these may be inspected at any time by ST staff.

Goblin Fruits

* ALL goblin fruits must be approved by the VST in order to be used in play.

Catches

* Contract Catches are highly flexible. Always consult ST staff before presuming a Catch to be in effect.

Custom and Rare Game Mechanics

*Players must have a valid approval number and a printed copy for any custom or rare mechanics used by their characters.
*The VST reserves the right to deny custom items entering play if they are deemed unbalancing or inappropriate to the atmosphere and play style of the venue.

Downtime actions and XP expenditures

* Downtimes need to be sent to the VST no less than 24 hours before game in order to be accepted into continuity and affect the upcoming game.
* XP awards for downtimes will be considered on a case by case basis.
* XP expenditures must be approved by the VST before the start of game to be allowed into play.
* VST maintains right to deny any XP expenditure pending appropriate roleplay and/or appropriateness to the venue.

Proxy Rules

* Proxied characters may find themselves in reduced, even non-existent roles do to a small narrator staff.
* Please give at least 72 hours warning for proxy and complete the requirements listed in the Camarilla Rules Supplement.
* All proxy requests must contain stated intent and desired actions, a complete character sheet, and thorough descriptions of the characters typical reactions to potential situations.
* Some interaction may be able to be accomplished via email or IRC with prior arrangement.
* Please email the VST for more details.

Visiting Character Gudelines

* If you plan to physically visit, we would love to have you! Please email the ST staff and we will do our best to find crash space and/or other accommodations.

Travel

* Alaska is aptly named the last frontier. It's area accounts for nearly a fifth of the US's total land mass. The Fairbanks North Star Borough (boroughs = counties) is roughly the size of the State of Connecticut and is located in Interior Alaska, which is rather spread out and, in many places, untamed. This in mind Travel to Fairbanks can often be dangerous.
* This is by no means meant to suggest that travel to Fairbanks is impossible. Rather it should encourage people to think out their entire in-character visit as fully as possible, and should even be taken as flavor to add to the story of the visit.
* Travel overland can be difficult for characters even in summer when there aren't wind and snow to contend with. It can, however be an option for those willing to make the effort.
* Air travel can be a convenient method to reach Fairbanks, but, with the restrictions of the current era, it may prove to be an unavailable option to many changelings. For practical purposes, characters must either have the New Identity Merit, or possess sufficient applicable skills for this endeavor to be able to successfully bypass such difficulties during a scene.
* Braving the thorns: To any changelings bold enough, the hedge can prove a valuable means of transit. Its dangers, however, are not to be taken lightly. It's paths are host to any number of dangers, not all of them physical. Even the briefest forays into the hedge can be extraordinarily harrowing. Those willing to risk its dangers, however, often find that it is useful for such a journey. Players wishing to utilize this option should be prepared to have scenes run for the journey to and from Fairbanks and understand that these will be subject to all the dangers, and possibly more, of any other scene during their visit.

XP awards

In order for a character to earn XP, the VST must have an up to date copy of your character sheet. All characters are capped at 5xp / game, 8 / month. In addition, characters without a background on file with the VST will be capped at 3xp / game. The following may stack when applicable. Penalties are taken from the applicable xp cap. Therefore a player penalized for -1xp would now be capped at either 4xp(with background) or 2xp(without) for the night.
